Major remodel and second-story addition

This 1952 Roman brick home was set on a busy street and in need of modernization. We set out to expand the living area and create a serene space with a focus on the tranquil rear yard and landscaping — a place where you can step off the busy street and be transported. The structural challenges of building a second story addition off of a 1950’s structure were extensive and included retrofitting the existing building to modern codes as well as waterproofing elements around the existing brick. Because the original brick facade adds a subtle but important texture we were sensitive to maintaining its integrity and made sure all new materials worked together seamlessly.
