Job Description:

The Director of Construction will oversee and supervise both the office and field teams during all phases of construction.  These teams consist of: Estimator & Project Engineer, Project Coordinator, Site Superintendent and Leads, and a currently being developed Project Manager role. The Director of Construction will focus on improving and maintaining our management structure, internal communication, project oversight, and team development. This position is a leadership role, requiring both knowledge of construction means and methods, construction management, and oversight of a team-based construction structure.  

Ability to work with people from a broad range of backgrounds is essential. 

This position will report directly to the two owners and work in parallel with our administrative and financial team. This position requires fluency in various software applications and internet platforms, including construction management software, smartsheet, excel, google suite.

 List of responsibilities:

  • Strategize operations to maximize financial margins for the construction division of Plum
  • Hold staff accountable to perform to the specifications of  project documents and company directives
  • Develop and oversee processes, management teams, construction staff
  • Mentor and develop staff, and check in with staff regularly
  • Evaluate and improve performance according to financial and project metrics
  • Oversee employee evaluation and reviews
  • Conduct weekly project meetings, provide effective leadership to project team
  • Monthly check-ins individually with clients and architects to gauge Plum’s performance and communication, and address as necessary
  • Delegating responsibilities to ensure the construction teams are adequately performing the following: 
    • Compliance of safety protocols
    • Onboarding, training and developing employees
    • Project partners (clients and project architects) are being communicated with weekly and their needs are being met
    • Ensure staff is updating project schedules, budgets, RFI’s and CO’s and communicated weekly
    • Recruitment, hiring of new staff
    • Take part and present information at monthly Directors meetings with owners and directors of other Plum divisions (Shop, Design & Finance)

Job Description:

We are currently seeking a professional and energetic Project Coordinator. This individual will work directly as part of our project management structure to ensure the successful execution of our projects. A willingness to further develop this position and participate in continual process improvements is key to the role.

Primary responsibilities fall in 3 key areas:

  • Serve as a client-facing representative for Plum Projects – Provide clear and consistent communications throughout the duration of a project, be the point of contact for project related questions and issue intake, distribute information and follow up with answers to ensure client satisfaction. Communicate project financials and change orders throughout.
  • Supervise projects end-to-end – Provide administrative and project management support including entering contracts/subcontracts, review scope alterations and assist with budget tracking.
  • Project execution – Anticipate potential project delays to avoid scheduling conflicts or budget issues. Set goals and follow thru on execution.

Regular Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Successful support in the management and execution of projects on behalf of Plum Projects LLC
  • Serve as the main point of contact from project development through warranty
  • Set priorities to achieve successful project plans and execution
  • Ensure clients’ needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Enter contracts, change orders, and insurance info into SAGE
  • Develop budgets and cost analyses for projects
  • Track the progress and provide periodic reporting on the status of contracts
  • Anticipate and mitigate potential budget and scope change impacts
  • Review scope alterations, additions and change order for accuracy and appropriate back up
  • Report to clients and architects about progress and any necessary modifications of plans that seem indicated
  • Subcontractor development and locating including maintaining contact with subcontractors to build relationship and assist in any contractual matters
  • Establish, maintain, process and/or oversee files, correspondence, and/or other project related documents according to company policy between clients and field
  • Perform a wide variety of other administrative tasks as assigned, such as submittals, operation and maintenance manuals
  • Participate in identification of process improvement and lessons learned
  • Read contracts/sub-contracts and advise internal/external parties to the contract terms, rights and obligations
  • Verify compliance with tax authorities, licensing, insurance, liens, and bonds
  • Follow up with subcontractors regarding sales tax and licensing requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of project accounting functions including billing, project budget analysis, purchase and work orders, subcontractor financial management, cost-to-complete analysis, contract financial requirements, change orders, AR aging, etc.
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify errors and inconsistencies

We are seeking individuals with the construction experience and communication skills required to be a Site Lead / Superintendent. This position will work ‘bags on’, leading carpenters and apprentices while also being part of the project team.

Job Descriptions:

Site Lead ($35-$45/hr DOE):

  • Read architectural plans
  • Manage construction workflow
  • Oversee and signoff on work completed by subcontractors and vendors
  • Communicate – both verbally and in writing to project coordinators, architects, and consultants
  • Perform various construction related tasks from site mobilization to final sweep up and project delivery
  • Work independently and as part of field staff and project team
  • Function as part of a project team comprised of a project coordinator, site lead, and operations manager
  • 5 years minimum construction experience

Carpenters ($28-$40/hr DOE):

  • Perform various construction related tasks from site mobilization to final sweep up and project delivery
  • Communicate – both verbally and in writing to project coordinators, architects, and consultants
  • Work independently and as part of field staff and project team
  • 3 years minimum construction experience

Laborers ($20/hr to start):

Job Description:

We are looking for enthusiastic and talented Project Architect & Studio Lead who will work closely with the Director of Design to manage the studio and lead complex projects through all phases of work (As Built/Pre-Design through Construction Observation). Ideal candidates will have a strong technical background in constructing drawings sets, ability to learn and teach new tools and methods to the team. This position needs to work well with a team as well as independently. The Project Architect & Studio Lead will be responsible for:

  • Pre-Design and Feasibility studies, code research and design presentations
  • Create, develop, and maintain BIM models through all phases of design and construction
  • Develop a well-documented drawing set through all phases of a project
  • Project Management and serving as a point of contact for clients
  • Track project financials
  • Communicating and working closely with the build, design, and fabrication teams
  • Day to day team management and mentoring

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Approximately 10+ years of experience with a focus on single family residential
  • Familiarity with single family residential projects, development projects, and Commercial/TI all are beneficial
  • Professional license preferred
  • Bachelor or Master of Architecture degree
  • Ability to manage others, mentor staff, coordinate on workflow, and implement processes
  • Actively involved in business development working closely with the Director of Design vetting and securing new work
  • Capability to lead and design on multiple projects of various sizes, scales, complexities, and budgets
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite. Comfort with technology and ability to explore/learn new technology
  • Ability to communicate effectively through graphic and visual representation
  • Certification or interest in Passive House building technology is a plus as well as other experiences in green and sustainable practices
  • Desire to keep learning and developing skills

What you’ll get:

  • This position has a salary range of $85,000 to $105,000. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience.
